Tom Ford’s new movie was more than expected. After his brilliant and beautiful A Single Man with Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, Tom Ford made us wait 7 years to discover his new gem, the dark perfection of Nocturnal Animals. You know what, it was worth the wait.

Starring Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Micheal Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Armie Hammer to name but a few, Nocturnal Animals is a thriller of the soul.

Plot summary: An art gallery owner is haunted by her ex-husband’s novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a veiled threat and a symbolic revenge tale.

The opening scene showing the beauty and the ugliness will remain in your mind for a long time. With this, Tom Ford is already making a statement about beauty and ugliness in everyone, the ugly truth. His thriller paints the story of two characters linked by a terrible secret, Tony/Edward (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Susan (Amy Adams). With a smooth and gripping writing, a music like no other, an astonishing cinematography, Nocturnal Animals has the power over us.

Thriller noir, psychological sometimes, cynical most of the time, Nocturnal Animals is keeping us breathless during the whole movie. We are watching Edward and Susan story juggling between past, present and new reality with ease. The director is putting us in the same state as when reading a sublime thriller. Every page is stunning and so is its revelation.

Amy Adams was made for this role. With her sad beauty Tom Ford found his new muse to portray loneliness, success, guilt. Jake Gyllenhaal never cease to amaze with an evolving performance bringing back his days of Brokeback Mountain, Nightcrawler and Enemy in one film. Powerful, heartbreaking. Michael Shannon and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, both brilliant, bring the necessary madness to Nocturnal Animals.

In every way, Tom Ford just created perfection, his dark perfection.
